Common Questions and Concerns
What can I work as a PADI instructor in Chile?
ou’ll be able to certify students independently anywhere in the world. Or work for a PADI dive center certifying their students. These are the most traditional paths for beginning instructors. Later, you can choose a specialty area, as many opt for underwater photography or technical diving. And thus, dedicate yourself to teaching specific knowledge to other divers. Read more about job opportunities for dive instructors in Chile.
Is it necessary to be a PADI Divemaster to take the OWSI course?
Yes, it’s necessary. Being a PADI Divemaster or having an equivalent leadership certification is a requirement to enroll in the OWSI course. This experience ensures you have the basic leadership and management skills you’ll need as an instructor.
How long does the OWSI course last?
The PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor course typically lasts between 10 to 14 days, depending on how sessions are structured. During this time, you’ll be participating in theoretical sessions, pool practices, and open water simulations.
Can I start teaching immediately after finishing?
No, you still must take the PADI instructor examination or Instructor Examination (IE). This test allows PADI to certify that your knowledge meets safe diving standards. The examination date is set by PADI and may vary according to their schedule.
What is the Instructor Examination (IE)?
The IE is the final exam you must pass to obtain your PADI Instructor certification. It’s a rigorous process that evaluates your theoretical knowledge, teaching skills, and ability to manage in-water situations. PADI examiners administer this evaluation and ensure you meet the standards. Our training course provides you with all the tools to teach dive classes independently. If you have good command of them and complete our simulation, you’ll be able to pass the Instructor Examination without problems. The dates and costs of each examination are set by PADI.
What happens if I don’t pass the Instructor Examination (IE)?
If you don’t pass some part of the IE, you’ll have the opportunity to repeat only that section on another date. The process is designed to give you all necessary opportunities to achieve your certification. Keep in mind that more than one examination usually incurs additional costs and that the dates of each examination are set by PADI examiners.
Can I work anywhere in the world with PADI Instructor certification?
Yes, one of the greatest advantages of being a PADI Instructor is that your certification is globally recognized. PADI instructors are valued for their training and experience, which will allow you to work at dive centers anywhere in the world, from the Caribbean to Quintay, Chile.
Do I need my own diving equipment?
For the OWSI course, it’s recommended that you have your own diving equipment, including mask, fins, BCD, regulator, and dive computer. However, if you don’t have all the equipment yet, we can help you at our dive center by lending you appropriate equipment during classes and the examination.
